Monica K. Ferkin, ACSW, LCSW, CADC, CEAP
 
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois and Wisconsin, a Certified Addictions Counselor, and a Certified Employee Assistance Professional.  I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, from Loyola University of Chicago.  My major emphasis of study was in Developmental Psychology, with a Minor in Women's Studies. I attained my Masters of Social Work degree from Jane Addams School of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago, with an emphasis in Mental Health and Employee Assistance Programs.  For the past 25 years I have worked in a variety of settings with individuals challenged with a wide range of concerns impacting many aspects of their lives.  My specialized practice has been within Employee Assistance Programs where I was an EAP Supervisor at Ingalls Memorial Hospital and a Vice President and Manager of the EAP's for The Northern Trust Company and Harris Trust and Savings Bank.  I facilitate support groups and conduct seminars, presentations, and critical incident debriefings.  My theoretical approach is Eclectic in which I integrate several treatment methods depending upon the uniqueness of the individual client:  their motivation, strengths, challenges, history, beliefs/values, resilience, and present/future life vision.  I enjoy networking with other professionals and therapists and am an affiliate provider with several EAPs as well as a provider for some insurance panels. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Personally

In addition to my education and professional work experiences, I have journeyed some of the same paths of personal life experiences that I assist people with.  I draw upon these events to assist those whom I support.  Since I have an understanding and familiarity of life transitions, emotional processes, and the progression of healing, I sincerely empathize with others.  I also have first-hand knowledge and familiarity of the empowerment which leads to growth, and value the power of diversity, in which we are all unique gifts in the world.
